If the conditions are met, the Finnish Immigration Service will grant you asylum. Asylum may be granted if you have a well-founded fear of persecution in your home country or country of permanent residence due to your origin, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion, and you cannot seek protection from the authorities of your home country or country of permanent residence due to this fear.

A residence permit in Finland can be granted based on employment, business activities, studies, family ties, or asylum. A residence permit based on family ties may be granted to a family member of a Finnish citizen, a person residing in Finland with a residence permit, or someone who has received international protection in Finland.

If a residence permit or asylum is not granted, you must leave Finland. A removal decision is usually made in connection with a negative asylum or residence permit decision.
A deportation decision is issued when a residence permit has already been granted but is not extended or is revoked due to criminal activity.
Both removal and deportation decisions include an opportunity to leave Finland voluntarily. If departure does not occur voluntarily, the police or the Border Guard will enforce the removal or deportation.
It is possible to appeal both deportation and removal decisions and request a suspension of enforcement. We assist you in appealing deportation and removal decisions.
